Entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica is completely free. If you want to visit this place with someone or on your own, you can do it without the need for a guide or a reservation, you just need to stand in line in St. Peter’s Square and go through airport-style checks. However, the queues to enter without being part of an organized tour are quite long! so if you don’t want to wait an hour, you can buy tickets online that include a guide with faster access to the basilica.
St. Peter’s Basilica opens its doors at 7am and closes at 7pm in summer (April-September) and 6.30pm in winter (October-March). On Wednesdays the Basilica is closed to the public for the papal audience and then reopens at 1pm.
The best time to visit the Basilica is usually early in the morning from 7 until about 9. You need to remember that to enter you have to respect a dress code that includes covered shoulders and knees
